Juicy Text in Photoshop

Friday, September 26 by Robby

Hey guys, this is Rob, im a new writer here at MagnusFx. In this article I’m going to teach you how to create a simple yet awesome “Juicy” text effect. Lets begin!

For this tutorial you’re going to want a nice rounded font, I used the free font Arista.

Step 1:

Ok, first off were going to need to open a new document. For this tutorial I opened a small document, with a dark gray background (with stripes!).

Step 2:

Now that you have a nice font and a fresh doc open, select the horizontal text tool and type out your text. Keep in mind bright, vibrate colors look the best! I used (#90ff00, 85pt).

Step 3:

From the layers palette, right click the text layer and go to rasterize type. The reason we do this is so we can make a selection of individual letters easily.

Step 4:

Now that that text is all set, its time to prep for the brushing. Create a new layer (Ctrl+Shift+N), then make a selection of the first later. To get a select, select the magic wand tool and simply click inside the letter. Now go to select>modify>contract>2px.

Got it? So its New layer>Select>Contract 2px

Step 5:

Now time for the brushing. It makes it alot easyer if you zoom in, so do so. Now select a 13px white soft brush and lightly brush the right side of the selection as so.

Step 6:

Repeat step 5 for each individual layer. Remember only to brush the far right of the selection. Be careful not to over-brush. Voila you’re done, here’s how your final product should look:

That’s it! I hope you enjoyed this tutorial. Be sure to fill in the form below to get an email every time a new tutorial is posted!

Or you could just type the text, go to layer options and select innershadow. Then change blending options to “Normal”, Shadow colour to “White” and play with the “distance” and “size” sliders to achieve a uniform effect for all letters in one easy step :)

    love the effect. thanks

Sean, while I agree somewhat, I think Robby did this to help show newbies how to brush objects with greater skill. Plus doing it by hand (mouse) gives you control over the text in a fashion blending will not.

    Thanks for the comments!
